The American Kratom Association condemns the FDA for its lack of federal regulations on kratom production and distribution.
- The American Kratom Association (AKA) has issued a Consumer Advisory due to the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) lack of kratom regulation. This advisory calls for individuals to make informed decisions in lieu of federal regulations.
- Mac Haddow, a representative for the AKA, believes that “The FDA’s irresponsible war on kratom and the Agency’s refusal to implement product manufacturing and marketing standards has led to the marketing of dangerous kratom products exposing consumers to unacceptable risks”.
- According to americankratom.org, the AKA is urging the Food & Drug Administration to establish and publish standards for kratom products. They are calling for the removal of any kratom products that don’t have proper labeling such as serving sizes, product ingredient listings, and appropriate warnings on misuse of the substance.
- Jim Carroll, who served as director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy from 2018-2021, states “There’s not too many industries that are asking for regulation these days, but the Kratom Association is, because they want to make sure that there’s proper labeling”.
- This advisory has been issued due to recent court decisions surrounding kratom, which the AKA believes to be the result of the FDA’s failure to regulate products and trial attorneys’ failure to acknowledge the FDA’s culpability.
